Midlothian, Texas
Wendell Robert Prewitt was born on October 6, 1969 in Dallas, Texas to Skelton Ladell and Ellen Louise Prewitt. Along with his two brothers, Wendell grew up in Midlothian learning how to raise cattle, mend fences, bale hay, turn a screwdriver, and above all, worship the Lord. He spent his childhood attending church, playing baseball, fishing at family reunions, and enjoying outdoor adventures. He graduated from Midlothian High School in 1988 and began college at the University of Texas at Arlington studying aerospace engineering. While commuting to school, he worked eight years in Grand Prairie at Spartech Plastics as a forklift mechanic, overall handyman, and errand boy for any odd job that his dad deemed necessary. It is through these experiences that God prepared Wendell for his next phase of life.
On November 25, 1994 he married Stephanie Lynn Jeffries, the girl he claimed he would never ask out on a date because of what he thought she said in their high school chemistry class. Their chemistry worked out well because God blessed Wendell and Stephanie with six children in six years; they remained in Midlothian to raise their kids, pursue their careers, and be close to their parents. With a fast growing family, Wendell left UTA and Spartech to become an installation and repair technician at AT&T. Over the next 26 years, Wendell faithfully went to work, heat or sleet, to provide for his family. He will always be their “super” man.
Wendell was not only committed to his wife, children, and job, but Wendell also loved his Lord and Savior with all of his being. He dedicated himself to studying His word and serving his church family at Pathway Baptist Church in Waxahachie. Wendell's gifts were many, but his favorite activities were teaching the youth group Junior and Senior Sunday school class, cooking on mission trips, and leading as a deacon. Wendell was ready and unashamed to share the Gospel, and he was continually planning some kind of opportunity to spread God’s glory, whether it was by creating a cancer support group or a coworkers’ barbecue.
As a kid, he loved Jesus, played with tools, took things apart, and wondered about outer space. As an adult, he still worshiped the Almighty, collected numerous tools, fixed all things, and ran out of garage space. Although his physical body was overtaken by cancer at a young age, Wendell lived his 55 years of life in God’s abundant love. He never complained or blamed God about his disease but persistently gave thanks to the Creator, the author of life. He passed on a rich legacy of faith, and he died peacefully in his home surrounded by his wife and children early in the morning on January 12, 2025. Now completely healed and standing before the throne, Wendell sees Jesus face to face.
