Thomas Allen "Tom" Coleman Obituary (1930

Thomas "Tom" Allen Coleman, 91, died May 14, 2022, in Midlothian, Texas. He was born May 30, 1930, in Lubbock, Texas to Lonnie Lee Coleman and Amanda Elizabeth (Betty) Hefner Coleman. Most of his youth was spent in Victoria, Houston, Beaumont, and Vidor, Texas. His family moved to Lowell, Arkansas his senior year where he graduated from Springdale High School in Springdale, Arkansas in 1947. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from the University of Arkansas in 1952. Upon graduation, he received his commission to the United States Air Force and was stationed at Westover Air Force Base in Springfield, Massachusetts for three months, and Ladd Air Force Base in Fairbanks, Alaska for the remainder of his two years. He married Dorothy Jean Cherry on June 11, 1955, at Polytechnic Baptist Church. They move to College Station, TX where Tom was enrolled at Texas A&M. In 1956 he became a farm manager for Foster Egg Farm in Alto, Texas before the company moved him to Britton, near Midlothian to build and operate their new facility. In 1973, Tom began working for Pilgrim's Pride as an egg sales manager in Arlington, TX. In 1975, Tom became the Vice President and General Manager for Feather Crest Farms in Dallas. He remained there until his retirement in 2006. After moving into Midlothian in 1970, his family became members of First Baptist Church in Midlothian where he continued leadership roles by teaching Senior Adults, Sunday School Director, and Deacon Chairman. He continued to serve as a Sunday School teacher until a few months before his passing. Tom was also active in the city as a member of the Midlothian Community Development Corporation from 2003 to 2018. He also served on the Utility Advisory Board from 2019 to 2022. Since 1968, he enjoyed spending time with his family each year fishing and developing many new friendships at Tall Pine Resort in Red River, New Mexico. Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Jean Coleman, in 2011. Survivors: His sons, John "Johnny" Thomas Coleman of Midlothian and Bruce Allen Coleman and wife, Edie, of Midlothian; granddaughters, Katie Coleman of Midlothian, and Amanda Coleman of Fort Worth; sister-in-law, Sue Cox and husband, James, of Fort Worth; nieces, Kathy Cox Mills-Hood of Benbrook, TX, Judy Coleman Poole of Madison, Al; and nephew, Ric Coleman of Las Cruces, NM.
