Jean Ann Griffith (Coleman)

–

Midlothian, Texas

Jean Ann Griffith passed away at the nursing home on the morning of December 13, 2023 at the age of 84. Jean Ann was born to Jeanette Louise Currier Coleman and Donald Maurice Coleman on February 20, 1939 in their family home in Eufaula, Oklahoma. She was raised in the Eufaula home with her younger brother, Donald Maurice Coleman Jr. (Butch) and her grandmother, Gabie Belle Savell Currier. Jean Ann enjoyed her youth in Eufaula, playing in the marching band, a member of the Glee Club, acting in several plays, and to no surprise a member of the National Honor Society. She was voted Most Beautiful Girl and crowned Homecoming Queen her senior year and what a beautiful queen she was. A good-looking young man named Curtis Deryl (C.D.) Griffith moved to Eufaula and she became totally infatuated with him. He was quite a football player, so he was her escort the night she was crowned. She went on to attend Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, OK with plans to major in Elementary Education; however, Deryl cut that time short when he came to "propose" to her by telling her that he didn't want to leave Oklahoma without her. Jean Ann, who has never been one to make quick decisions, decided to leave with him and they got married in Tulsa on September 11, 1959. They then moved to Brady, TX to start their lives. Jean Ann had a career as an administrative assistant most of her working years and was quite the proofreader and English expert. Jean and Deryl had three children, Melanie, Scott, and Mike, and moved quite often between Texas and Oklahoma. Jean was always happy to move as she considered that "spring cleaning!"

Jean Ann was gracious, calm, a peacemaker, and always content. She had a great sense of humor. She always put others before herself and had the biggest heart. In the last few years when she couldn't get out as much, she loved talking on the phone with all her friends, and she was a great conversationalist who always looked at life optimistically. She was a loyal friend, and she had the best hugs. If you were her friend or family member, you would have no doubt that she loved you unconditionally. She loved her family with all her heart, and she was the best mother, grandmother, and great and great great grandmother. She loved hearing about everything the kids were doing. Jean lived a complete life because of her faith in Jesus and she prayed fervently for her family and friends. We are confident that Jesus said, "well done you good and faithful servant," when she entered the kingdom of God.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Louise Coleman, her brother, Butch Coleman, her youngest son, Mike Griffith, in 2015 and by her husband, Deryl, in 2017. Survivors include her daughter, Melanie Rodges and husband, Tony, son, Scott Griffith and wife, Donna, daughter-in-law, Joyce Griffith, grandchildren, Tiffany Simpson and husband, Jeff, Madison Rodges and fiance, Joe, Melissa Hazelip and husband, Danial, Melanie Riggs and husband, Jeff, Michael Chiles and wife, Keri, Mitchell Griffith and wife Paige, Gabbie Griffith and partner, Britton, 12 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
