Ellen Louise was born November 18, 1941 in Dallas,TX to Joe Bob and Evelyn Louise Wheat. She was the second of three children of a strong Bible believing family. As an early teen at Faith Baptist Church, the church in which her dad helped build from the ground up, Ellen made the personal choice to accept Jesus as her savior. She, then, followed Him in baptism in a local pond. This faith would shape the decisions and directions of the rest of her life. She attended the Dallas public school system graduating from Rylie High School in 1959 when she began a career of service to others in the home, church, and community.
Ellen married Skelton Ladell Prewitt on August 3,1962, and would faithfully serve by his side for the next 41 years. Together, they devoted their lives to one another and the Lord until Ladell was called home in September of 2003. One could say Ellen's only true rival was Elsie, a brown Swiss Jersey milk cow who would drop her head and paw the ground ready to charge anytime Ellen came close to the fence. God blessed them with four children, a goddaughter and three sons, who also accepted Christ as their Savior by observing the faith lived out in their home.
Ellen served many jobs as a wife, mom, friend, and sister. She worked for Stanley products, as a clerk for Mt. Peak Water Co. and in the cafeteria at the local high school. By far, her favorite job was being Memaw to her 14 grandchildren and 11.3 great grandchildren.
On June 07, 2008 Ellen found the second love of her life when she married Walter Keith Christy. They had a honeymoon marriage that would last for the next nine years with many adventures until he too was called home in August 2017.
Ellen enjoyed singing, playing the piano, growing flowers, shopping, gossiping, dancing (her boys weren't allowed), baking (she loved to feel the dough between her fingers), hosting, and cooking almost anything for which she was renown.
A life of faith, a race well run, has been rewarded after 82 years. Her Heavenly Father called her home peacefully with family surrounding her on August 18, 2024. Now free and completely healed, Ellen is praising The Way, The Truth, and The Life, Jesus, forevermore.
