Midlothian, Texas
Ella Fern Curry, our beloved Granny, passed into eternal life on July 9, 2020 surrounded by a few of the many she loved. In an earthly life bookended by worldwide pandemics, Ella was born in Howard, Texas on July 29, 1918, to Bevil L. and Lena Rhodes Tidwell. She was their seventh of eight children. Aside from farm work, early life was simple, full of laughter, song, and the unconditional love of a large, tight-knit family. She was a stand-out basketball player, making the varsity squad in ninth grade, and was named to the All-State team. Once she made 98 out of 100 free throws at a Waxahachie contest. She married the love of her life, Vergil Davis Curry, in 1942, and eventually had three children with him. She was a housewife, dedicated to her husband, children, community, and church. She was involved in PTA, a room mother, and taught Sunday School. She was among a handful of believers in this area that would build a small living room Bible study into Midlothian Bible Church. God blessed them with many family and friends multiplying His greater Church overall. She was a self-taught pianist who loved traditional hymns, knowing every verse to many, and loved to play and sing with anyone, most especially her kids, grandkids, and great-grands. She loved company, especially domino games with her friends. She loved daytime soaps (her stories). She often served up fried steak, banana pudding, baked sweet potatoes, or a pot roast on Sundays. She loved Diet Coke, Bluebell ice cream and attending any and every event she could that her grandkids participated in. An avid sports fan, she loved Dallas Cowboy games and especially Dirk and the Mavericks. Her and her best friend Margaret were famous for watching the games together, and please don't call or make plans during them! She loved her family, her friends, her family's friends, and her friends' families. She was one of the world's shining examples that the best way to get someone to love you is to love them first. Ella was preceded in death by her parents, Bevil and Lena, husband Vergil, and each of her siblings and in-laws: Abby Tidwell, Pearl Nash and husband Jack, Lucille Williams and husband Lonnie, Pauline "Pete" Shaw and husband Bill, John Dudley (JD) Tidwell and wife Fritz, Willie Faye (Bill) Potter and husband David, Herman Tidwell and wife Minnie John. She was loved and survived by her son Ronald Curry and his wife Penny, daughter Beverly Curry Kossey, son Gerald Curry and wife Pam. These lovingly called her Granny - Ralna Kossey Johnston and husband Robert, Heather Curry Roberts and husband PJ, Jason Curry and wife Erika, Raina Curry Foegelle and husband Jason, Jill Curry Grigar and husband Ian. Her great-grandchildren are Coleson Curry, Avery Foegelle, Paisley Foegelle, Natalie Marina, Faryn Marina, Braden Grigar, Hank Curry, Charlie Curry and her little namesake Madelyn Ella Grigar. Numerous nieces and nephews from both the Tidwell and Curry sides of her family. She passed from this temporary life July 9, 2020 to go and really LIVE in eternity with Jesus. She was only 20 days short of her 102nd birthday. Her family, friends, and a world in need of all the love it can get will sorely miss her. In lieu of flowers, smile at somebody you don't know, give something to someone who needs it, and/or call up somebody you don't agree with on almost anything and have a nice conversation with them about the few things you do. She would love it if you wanted to donate a bit to the Midlothian Bible Church Benevolence fund to help others in need in Jesus' name.
