Bertha Joyce "Meme" Fitzgerald

–

Midlothian, Texas

Bertha Joyce Fitzgerald, age 79, of Midlothian, TX, was born in Norman, OK to Carl and Nadine King on October 5, 1936. Joyce married Jim Fitzgerald in 1954. She had four children; Cindy, Brad, Mike and Sandi. With the birth of her grandchildren, Joyce soon became known as "Meme" and before long, the broader Midlothian community came to know her as Meme too. Meme loved playing games with her sisters and every Saturday night she could call her brother to discuss her Sunday School plans for the next morning. She also loved talking to her Uncle Harley on the phone. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, doting on them whenever she could and taking them out to eat as often as possible. Meme was very thoughtful, sending cards and buying sweet gifts for all the family, and she kept up with her nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren. One of the highlights of Meme's week was leading her two and three year olds Sunday School class at Oak Crest Baptist Church. Meme would spend time in the week planning her lesson, gathering materials for crafts and finding yummy snacks. Then when Sunday came, she loved spending time with the children and teaching them God's Word. She was married to Jim Fitzgerald 40 years when he passed away in 1994. Meme peacefully passed away in her sleep on what would have been their 62nd wedding anniversary on Saturday, June 25, 2016. In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to Oak Crest Baptist Church in Meme's name.
